Chickens: the basics
Hens lay eggs. A hen and rooster living together can make fertile eggs for breeding. Roosters do not lay.
Feed and shelter them. Chickens roam outdoors, seek thrown feed, and return to a coop around sunset. A safe, fed flock is more productive.
Handle them directly. Catch a chicken to carry, move, sell, or protect it. Collect loose and coop eggs, then breed them or stock the farm stand.
